H1N1 virus and vaccination among rheumatology patients, especially those on DMARDS.

چکیده
With the influenza season facing us much concern exists among rheumatologist and rheumatology patients regarding the impact of the seasonal influenza virus. Unfortunately this year we also face the additional challenge and worry of the H1N1 virus, first described in April 2009, among rheumatology patients, especially those on Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs). Traditionally Rheumatologists have become structured in dealing with seasonal influenza vaccination, however 2009 saw many rheumatologists struggling to advise patient regarding the H1N1 virus and associated vaccination. Thankfully the American College of Rheumatology 1 have issued clear guidelines (September 2009), along with the Irish Society for Rheumatology (October 2009) 2 on how to advise and manage patients regarding the H1N1 virus and vaccination.

TNF blockers show distinct patterns of immune response to the pandemic influenza A H1N1 vaccine in inflammatory arthritis patients.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the immunogenicity of the anti-influenza A H1N1/2009 vaccine in RA and spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients receiving distinct classes of anti-TNF agents compared with patients receiving DMARDs and healthy controls. METHODS One hundred and twenty patients (RA, n = 41; AS, n = 57; PsA, n = 22) on anti-TNF agents (monoclonal, n = 94; soluble receptor, n = 26) were compared wit...

OBJECTIVES To compare serological response to influenza vaccine in patients with long-standing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated with tumour necrosis factor (TNF) blockers and/or methotrexate (MTX) and controls. METHODS Altogether, 149 patients with RA and 18 healthy subjects were vaccinated. Fifty patients were treated with TNF blockers (etanercept or infliximab) in combination with MTX (TNF...
متن کاملEfficient boosting of the antiviral T cell response in B cell-depleted patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases following influenza vaccination.
OBJECTIVES Booster vaccination against 2009 H1N1 influenza virus was recommended for rheumatologic patients under immunosuppressive therapy during the 2009/2010 H1N1 pandemic. In this study we assessed whether B cell depletion with rituximab influences of the antiviral immune response in 2009 H1N1 influenza virus-vaccinated patients. METHODS Influenza virus-specific immune responses were anal...
متن کاملH1N1 and vaccination of rheumatology patients.
From an Irish perspective we question the transferability of the data reported by Naseem et al to an Irish based Rheumatology population were the H1N1 outbreak was well publicised in 2009/2010 2 . Firstly I would like to highlight that all Rheumatology patient receiving immunosuppressant medications attending our service were actively informed, via postal information, to receive the seasonal an...
متن کاملEffect of a second, booster, influenza vaccination on antibody responses in quiescent systemic lupus erythematosus: an open, prospective, controlled study.
OBJECTIVE In SLE, a decreased antibody response on influenza vaccination has been reported. In this study, we assessed whether a booster vaccination could improve antibody responses, as determined by seroprotection rates, in SLE patients. METHODS SLE patients (n = 52) with quiescent disease (SLEDAI < or =4) and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 28) received subunit influenza vaccine in October-Dece...
